Legacy Live Oak Program
|
||
Live Oaks draped in Spanish moss are one of Edisto's enduring images. The Edisto Island Open Land Trust's vision is to restore the majestic oak trees along Highway 174 that have been lost over the years. The Legacy Live Oaks program provides a way to honor family and friends while contributing to Edisto's historic beauty. With a contribution of $500 (five hundred dollars) a Legacy Live Oak tree will be planted along Scenic Highway 174 on Edisto Island in honor of a loved one. 110 Legacy Live Oak trees have been planted along Scenic Highway 174 from the Dawhoo Bridge to Russell Creek. The Edisto Island Open Land Trust has engaged a landscaper to maintain the trees and insure that they prosper in their new permanent home. Each Legacy Live Oak donation is fully tax deductible as a charitable contribution. Each donor's gift will be recognized in Edisto Island Open Land Trust publications, and honorees names are listed on a monument at the Edisto Island Open Land Trust's memorial site (a protected tract at the intersection of Highway 174 and Sand Creek.)
